The start of a new month can mean only one thing: a review of the best items from the previous month!
I don't have too many favourites this month, as I've been quite busy and haven't been trying as many new products as I would like to, rather I have been reaching for items I know and love, in the name of speed and getting the job done.
Having said this, about half way through June, I discovered Soap and Glory. Yes, I don't think there has ever been a person as late to the party as me. The party was pretty much over when I showed up. Except it isn't - Soap and Glory seem to be on fire at the moment, as they have some brilliant products out. On my first shopping trip to Kit Cosmetics (the stockist of S & G in Australia), I picked up three things, and I absolutely LOVE them all.
Number one was the Righteous Butter, which I must admit, I hated the smell of the first time I tried it, but after walking around the shop a few times, I kept coming back to it and realised that I absolutely love it. It is nothing like any sort of scent I have ever gone for in the past, its quite strong, and fairly sweet, but it isn't overpowering, and it is still very fresh. I bought one of the little tester/travel sized pots of this, and used it up in a week. I love it, and it is definitely a firm favourite now.
Number two was the Hand Food. Oh my LORD. I can't even tell you how good this is. Now I did a post a couple of weeks ago about the Marks and Spencer hand creams, which I still also love, but one thing I did mention was that I wasn't sure about the long-term benefits. I felt like they were lovely while I was wearing them, but once I washed my hands/didn't put an on, they went back to being dry and not looking very nice. But the Soap and Glory one is something else all together. I find that even when I'm not wearing this, like when I've washed my hands, or first thing in the morning if I forget to apply it, my hands still feel really soft and still feel like I'm wearing it. I love the smell, and you can't really go wrong with the $5.95 price point.
Number three is the Breakfast Scrub. Now THIS one is one that I hated the first time I smelled it. It really does smell like breakfast! It says it has a maple syrup fragrance, and this is most definitely true. Now, I hate maple syrup with a passion, so I wrote this off instantly, but again, like with the Righteous Butter, I kept coming back to smell it, and realised I actually quite like it! To me it smells like a combination of maple syrup and coffee. What i was worried about was that it might make my skin smell like that after my shower, and to be honest I didn't really want to spend my day smelling like I had spilled my breakfast all over myself, but the scent fades as soon as you rinse the scrub off, which is nice.
I'm probably going to do a full Soap and Glory post so I shan't say too much more, but its safe to say that this brand is a firm favourite of mine now.
In terms of NON Soap and Glory related favourites, I have a couple more!
Lee Stafford's Dry Shampoo has been a staple of mine this month. I did a review on this not too long ago so I won't go into too much detail, but this has saved my life! I started a new job this month, and I have to leave quite early in the morning, so the last thing I want to be doing is washing and styling my hair. I've been washing my hair the night before so its still ok in the morning, but I just spray a little bit of this onto my roots in the morning, run my fingers through it, and pin my hair back from my face, and it creates a nice, polished look, that takes all of two minutes and is ridiculously easy.
Another favourite is the APIVITA lip balm, but again, I did a review on this, so I won't bore you!
The last favourite of mine has been the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 'Smitten'. I've raved on about this in a couple of blog posts I think, but I think there's only been maybe three of four days during the month of June when I haven't worn this. Teamed with a bit of Naked Lunch eyeshadow on my lids, this created such a nice, polished but effortless look, and given that I've been so busy, its been hard to tear myself away from this little product. Given the choice of messing about with three different eyeshadows, eyeliner etc at 6am, or just slapping on some foundation, a quick sweep of eyeshadow, mascara and a bit of Smitten, its going to be the latter every single time!
As I said, I don't have too many favourites this month, and most of them are things I've talked about before, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been almost exclusively using them this month! Hopefully next month I'll have a few more exciting new products to talk about, but for now this is it!
