Product Review: Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

When it comes to foundation, I'm at a bit of a disadvantage, as I need to use fragrance free products (skin care and foundation). Its not too often that I come across a cheaper/drugstore foundation that is suitable for me to use, so I was delighted when I discovered that the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation was indeed fragrance free.

I first bought this about a year ago, and the first thing I noticed about it was the smell - I think it smells like a combination of sunscreen and shampoo. Obviously is is fragrance free, so it wasn't an overly perfumed scent, but fragrance free products still have to smell like SOMETHING! I wasn't a huge fan of the smell to start with, but now I don't mind it so much. I used this foundation every single day for about two months, so I guess it was something I got used to.

When I first bought this product, here in Australia the colour range was quite limited, and the lightest shade available at the time was '100 Ivory'. While this wasn't the worst colour match imaginable (some of the lightest shades in the Clinique foundations have been worse!), it did sit slightly wrong on my skin, and was a touch too yellow for me. About four months ago, I discovered some lighter shades, and picked up '081 Fair Ivory'. This is the best colour match I have EVER found with a foundation. Seriously - its like it was made for me, and this never happens, because I have such ridiculously fair skin.

Moving on to the finish of the foundation - it definitely isn't matte but I wouldn't exactly call it a dewy finish either. For me, I definitely have to powder this into place, otherwise it just looks incredibly oily and shiny. But once I have powdered it with the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, it becomes the most natural looking finish (in my opinion anyway). It isn't shiny, it isn't matte, it isn't full-on heavy coverage, but it covers redness and blemishes really well.

You can't really go wrong on the price either. In Australia, the RRP is $17.95, although I'm on my third bottle of this, and I don't think I have ever paid this much for it. In Priceline, Rimmel frequently has some sort of offer or sale on, and I usually buy this foundation for around $11-12.

All in all, this is a great find for me - there's absolutely nothing I can fault, now that I'm used to the smell!
I highly recommend trying out this product!
