Clinique Foundation Comparison

I have tried and tested a fair few Clinique foundations in the past few years.

My favourite by far is the Superbalanced Foundation ($50), which I reviewed in a little more detail in my May Favourites post. I find that it is a great foundation - its long-wearing, and makes my skin look great. Check out my May Favourites for a more in-depth review of this one.

The other foundations I've tried are the Even Better Foundation ($50). This is a high coverage foundation, which is great when my skin isn't feeling the best, because it isn't a matte finish. I think high coverage foundations are OK, as long as they still have a luminous look to them. As soon as you have a high coverage and a matte finish, that's when it starts looking like a mask. The only trouble with this foundation is the colour range - it is beyond me why Clinique don't have a universal colouring system with all of their foundations. The lightest colour in this foundation is Alabaster, but even this can look a bit too dark on me. I use Alabaster in the Superbalanced foundation, but in my opinion this is a completely different shade. Perhaps I'm just imagining things, but I think I would use this foundation on a more regular basis if I could find the right shade.

I have also tried the Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturiser ($50), the name of which I find a bit confusing. With this foundation (and yes I would call it a foundation, not a tinted moisturiser), I still have to apply my regular moisturiser underneath. It does have extremely good coverage for a tinted moisturiser though. I do quite like this foundation, but the issue with this one is it remains quite tacky on the skin, even if I powder it into place. Again, with the colour range, I find that the lightest shade is a tad too dark, but with this one I can make it work as long as I blend it in really well at the jaw line.

Next up is the Perfectly Real Foundation ($50), and, well, I absolutely hated this one. Of all the Clinique foundations, the colour range of this one is terrible. The very lightest shade is still about two or three shades too dark for me, yet I still ended up buying it because the girl at the Clinique counter was totally unwilling to do her job properly and actually test it out properly on my face - but that's another issue! I hated the coverage and finish of this foundation too - it was sticky, despite powdering it, and I found it made my skin look a bit flat. I also found that it didn't last the whole day, and by midday I would look like I barely had anything on, where as Superbalanced foundation lasts all day. For me, this was definitely not the right foundation, but that's not to say it isn't someone else's holy grail foundation!
