I didn't do a favourites post the last couple of months, and that was down to the fact that I really didn't use anything new. I had been a creature of habit for a good two months, reaching for the same products every single day. But hurrah, time is now on my side, and I've had the chance to bust out a few new products.
1. Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in 'Notting Hill Nude'
I like to think I've gone through a make up revolution. I've always been a black liner-red lip kinda gal, but lately, I've been going for much more earthy neutral tones. And that means I've also made my first ever foray into nude lipsticks. My problem had always been that nude lipsticks leaned too much onto the browny side of things, which for me is a huge no-no. Notting Hill Nude isn't too brown though. It definitely has slight hints of peach, and perhaps a touch of pink, while still remaining a true nude. Being part of the Moisture Renew range, it does just that, although as with most moisturising formulas, you do forfeit the longevity, but it wears away nice and evenly, so I don't really mind that. I bought it about two months ago, and I've nearly finished it. Its that good.
2. Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder in 'No. 20'
I might be cheating, including this in a monthly favourites post as I only bought it a few days ago, but I think it might already have reached holy grail status for me. Oh yes. Again, being quite fair, I only tended to use translucent powders, as coloured ones always ran too dark for me. Until I met Les Beiges. While I do have the lightest shade, its perfect for me, never looks cakey, imparts a glowy, healthy sheen, and smells fabulous. A definite winner for me.
3. Chanel Le Blush Creme de Chanel in 'Inspiration'
Holy moley. I never got the fuss around cream blushes. They never seemed to apply quite right, always seemed to be either far too pigmented, or went on patchy. I tried my fingers, I tried a brush, and nothing seemed to go quite right. Until I got the Chanel one. And now it all makes sense. While low-pigment products can be an absolute pain, they also run a bit that way when they're too pigmented. They just become difficult to work with. The Chanel offering is perfect. I would liken the colour to M.A.C Well Dressed blush, which is an excellent shade for me. The formula is delightfully creamy, applies well, imparts a lovely glowy sheen on the cheeks, and most importantly stays put throughout the day. And so continues my Chanel obsession...
4. Tresseme Extra Hold Salon Finish hairspray - the pink one
Oh Tresseme hairspray, where do I begin? I'm a bit funny when it comes to hair spray. It runs along the same lines as my weirdness with dry shampoo. I find the smell of most hairsprays to be a bit off-putting. Sometimes they're so strong that they completely take over whatever perfume I'm wearing, and its not a pleasant smell to be overtaken by either. Not to mention most seem to go sticky/crispy on my hair. Crispy hair is never a good thing. But the Tresseme offering, which I have used for years, comes out sans crisp, and actually smells good, but knows its place, and knows never to interfere with Chanel Chance...
I tend to wash and blow dry my hair, give it a liberal spray through the roots and lengths, and rough it up a bit with my fingers, creating a nice bit of texture in otherwise lank hair. The added benefit is that it comes in an enormous can, which lasts forever, but they also offer it in a dinky little handbag size, which has a multitude of benefits.
5. M.A.C Brow Set - the clear one
Strangely enough for me, I've been all about my brows lately. I've always filled them in a bit with either M.A.C Fling, or Omega, but I tend to use a very light hand, and brush through them immediately with a spoolie, to avoid any potential Brooke Shields moments. But recently, I've been longing for slightly thicker brows. And so operation make-brows-thicker-and-more-Shields-like begins. Starting with me getting a bit more adventurous with my Omega and my Real Techniques Brow Brush, and setting it all in place with Brow Set.
And so concludes another monthly favourites. I can see most of these becoming permanent fixtures in my routine.
