Oh Lord. I have a new found obsession with Chanel make up. Goodbye bank balance, its been nice knowing you.
One of my local shopping centres has just opened a Chanel beauty boutique. And can I say, just for the record, the customer service was excellent.
I often find that when I browse the more expensive beauty counters, I tend to get either completely ignored, or I have to fight tooth and nail to actually get some semblance of service. Case in point, I was browsing at one high-end brand's counter (which shall remain anonymous), and at the time they had an offer on, in which you could get a 5-day sample of their new foundation offering. I had the pamphlet in my hand. I pointed to it. I asked for it. And still, the lady at the counter seemed reluctant to give it to me. Why? No idea. If its her job to sell the products, I would think it pointless to turn someone away if it looked like they might be interested in buying something. Rant over.
But my experience at Chanel was something else all together. I just popped in for a browse, and was quickly seen to, invited to take a seat, and promptly dolled up with all their latest Christmas limited edition offerings. Lovely.
The Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder ($80) had caught my eye a while back, but I had put it on the back burner. Until she tried it out on me. While I normally stick to translucent powders, as I am very fair and usually find that coloured powders add too much colour to my face. Not this one though. I opted for shade 20, and dusted over my face with a big fluffy brush, adds just the right amout of oil-blotting and leaves a lovely sheer glowy/highlighted/healthy sort of look. It smells incredible, and the texture is delightful.
I had already agreed to purchase this on principal alone, as the girl serving me had been so damn nice. And then she invited me to look at their Christmas limited edition collection. The Illusion D'Ombre cream eyeshadow in 'Initiation' ($48). Oh my. Its probably best described as a burnished gold, and they certainly haven't been shy with the glitter. As per usual with the Chanel cream eyeshadows, it applies like a dream, and because it is a cream formula, there's no pesky fall out that you would get with a powder glitter eyeshadow. I feel like this will be on my lids throughout the Christmas season, and paired with a red lip, would make for the perfect Christmas/holiday make up look.
I was even invited back next week for a complimentary 'service' of my choice. I chose a hand massage and nail polish treatment. How's that for good service? Not to mention the fact I was sat down in an armchair to pay. Perhaps this is the norm for some, but I'm not used to such treatment! I could get used to this.
As always, there's a couple of items that made it to my hit list, in addition to the ones I purchased. The Illusion D'Ombre cream eyeshadow in 'Fatal' is the perfect partner to 'Illusion'. I might still be tempted to pick this one up too. Watch this space.
Finally, Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in 'Boy'. A perfect 'your lips but better' shade, that seems like the epitome of grown-up-ness to my 22 year-old self. Its on my Christmas list.
